CERT
The Corrections Emergency Response Team (CERT) was started in April of 2024, to fill the void in situations where conventional methods of de-escalation have failed. CERT members are tasked with responding to fights, assaults, disturbances, cell extractions, and high-profile court security as well as other situations that are likely to involve uncooperative and violent offenders. Every member of CERT undergoes a vigorous onboarding process that includes a physical test, written test, and oral board. CERT members are specifically trained in ground defense, use of force, and defensive tactics in the field of containment and control techniques through team movement and deployment of chemical agents, electronic control devices and extended range impact weapons. CERT also trains with other CERT Teams across the state of Michigan.
